95 years have passed since the iconic photograph of the Panama Railroad. Taken on June 9, 1930, it shows a train crossing the central track just as it departs from the passenger station at Plaza 5 de Mayo. The locomotive leading this passenger train is an Alco Brooks model 2-6-0 d/w 63”, numbered 662, manufactured between 1908 and 1909. It remained in service on the railroad until 1947.

In the third photograph, the exact location where the train was positioned is shown using a current satellite image. Photograph from the National Archives Online Catalog. Its colorized version was created with artificial intelligence.
