Alco MRS-1 2098: These locomotive models were built by order of the U.S. Army between 1952 and 1953, both by the American Locomotive Company (AlCo) and EMD (Electro-Motive Division). Their main feature was that their trucks—the part of the railcar containing the wheels and chassis to support the load—could be adapted to any track gauge in any country where the United States had a military presence. A total of 96 of these locomotives were built. Unit number 2098 was rebuilt in 1977 and sold to the Winchester & Western Railroad in Virginia, but it was rejected as unsatisfactory.
Between 1982 and 1985, this locomotive was transferred to Panama to serve on the railroad, but by the end of the decade, it was taken out of service, and its final whereabouts remain unknown. To date, only one blurry photograph of this locomotive has been found, showing it passing through Frijoles Station on the Panama railroad, along with a partial image in the Balboa yard.
