Miraflores railroad tunnel is the only tunnel in all the Panama Railroad

Miraflores railroad tunnel is the only tunnel in all the Panama Railroad. It was built between 1907 and 1909 with 595 feet or 181 meters long. It was built as a part of the railroad relocation due to the construction of the Panama Canal. The northern exit of the tunnel is right next to the entrance to the Miraflores water plant. In the year 2001, Panama Canal Railway Company, reconditioned the whole railroad including the tunnel and the height was adjusted to fit the double stack container cars for the freight trains.
